Funga Arctica & Alpina volume 1

Funga Arctica & Alpina volume 1. Setting the Scene; H. Knudsen, 338 pp., 2025.

This is a preliminary edition. The final edition is published simultaneously with volume 7.

The volume includes the history of the exploration of fungi in the Arctic and the Alps, the arctic symposia and the work with Funga Arctica & Alpina by the three editors.

A map is given to all localities visited by the editors in the North American and Eurasian continents 1980-2023; descriptions of arctic and alpine localities in the European countries; climatic conditions and geography. A large table show 950 Greenlandic and other arctic and alpine plants and the parasitic basidiomycetes living on them. Similarly, a table of the ecto-mycorrhizal plants and their fungal symbionts is given. In World Wide Web of Willows, 66 species of Salix are presented from the cold regions treated, and it is shown that Salix herbacea is the most widely used symbiont host, forming ecto-mycorrhiza with > 160 species of basidiomycetes. A comprehensive list of references  concludes the volume.
